Low Profile takes 1st Philracom Stakes Race of 2016

TO NO one’s surprise, champion Low Profile dominated the 2016 Philippine Racing Commission Commissioner’s Cup race held Sunday (Jan. 17) at Metroturf.

The 1,800-meter race, held in honor of commissioners Atty. Victor Tantoco and Lyndon Guce, featured five horses, all five years old.

Ruben Dimacuha’s Low Profile carried the heaviest handicap weight of 57 kgs. Despite this, jockey Mark Alvarez fashioned a convincing win over second placer Kanlaon. The other finishers, in order, were Biseng Bise, Manalig Ka, and Love Na Love last.

Low Profile’s win earned for his connections the top prize of P720,000 from the total purse of P1.2 million for first to fourth places. The total time for the race was 1:49.8 (13’-23’-24-22’-26).

This was Philracom’s first stakes race of the year.

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office also held its first stakes race of 2016 last weekend at Metroturf.

The 1400-meter PCSO 3YO  Special Maiden race had a field of six. The favorite in the daily double sales was Lucky Ray, who, with Mark Alvarez aboard, held the lead from start to backstretch, when second choice Kid Benjie, who was running off the pace, began to move up.

The colt guided by DH Borbe Jr. pulled away at the far turn and lengthened his lead down the stretch to win by six lengths, earning P600,000 for horseowner BB Virata.

Kid Benjie stopped the clock at 1:26.8 (13-22’-22’-29). Lucky Ray 2nd, Lady Pio 3rd, Ungkaw 4th.

PCSO’s next race is another 3YO Special Maiden on Feb. 13 at San Lazaro Leisure Park. The trial race will be held on Jan. 29, with 15 runners:

Herminio Esguerra’s colt Artikulo Uno, Joseph Dyhengco’s colt Big Cat Drama, Felizardo Sevilla Jr.’s colt Creative, Rene Viloria’s filly Graf, SC Stockfarm’s colt Johnny Be Good, Deemark International’s colt Indianpana, Honorato Neri’s colt Kaligayahan,
