MANILA — Meralco crushed a short-handed Blackwater side with a 105-90 win at the PBA Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Allen Durham was unstoppable inside the paint, tallying 30 points and 16 rebounds, against the Elite, who had to do without injured players Eric Dawson and Poy Erram.

Jared Dillinger scored 16 points off the bench while Brian Faundo and Cliff Hodge added 10 markers each for the Bolts.

Meralco coach Norman Black said they refused to underestimate the Dawson-less Blackwater.

“My experience over the years made me worry about this game mainly because I’ve been into a lot of games against a team missing an import and they play very, very well. Credit to Blackwater, they came out and played hard,” Black told the PBA website.

“But a win is a win. It’s a big win allowing us to stay at least in touch with the leaders with a chance to be twice-to-beat later on.”

The Bolts are now at fifth place behind Mahindra and Barangay Ginebra.

Blackwater, on the other hand, continues with its free fall with a 1-5 record.

Art dela Cruz led the way for the Elite with 23 points, four rebounds and two assists. Carlo Lastimosa had to settle for 16 points.
