MANILA, Philippines – Orlan Wamar sparked Centro Escolar University’s (CEU) fourth straight victory as he caught fire in their 70-57 rout of Marinerong Pilipino in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena.
The 18-year-old playmaker converted five of his six three-pointers, two of which came in the final quarter as the Scorpions broke the game open.
CEU led by as much as 19 points, 68-49, midway through the final period.
Wamar finished with 16 points off the bench on top of two rebounds in the win.
“Alam kong lalabas ‘yung laro niya, dahil grabe talaga ang work ethic ni Wamar,” said coach Yong Garcia. “May go-signal talaga siya mula sa akin para tumira.”
Congolese big man Rod Ebondo imposed his presence in the paint and racked 13 markers, 18 boards, four blocks, and two assists, while Christian Uri chipped in 11 in the triumph.
CEU’s four-game winning run helped it rise to 4-2, keeping itself in the running in the race for the elusive top two spots.
On the other hand, Marinerong Pilipino continued its slide and was dealt its third straight loss to fall to 1-4.
Achie Iñigo pumped 13 points, banking on his 3-of-5 shooting from rainbow country, while also grabbing five rebounds, while Mark Isip added 12 markers and six boards in the losing effort.
