MANILA — Jio Jalalon sank a buzzer-beating jumper to lift Star past a determined NLEX squad, 105-103, in their thrilling encounter in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday.
The Road Warriors were seemingly headed to their first victory in the conference with a slim 103-101 lead following a Kevin Alas lay-up with 46 seconds remaining.
However, a costly foul by Alas allowed Hotshots import Toney Mitchell to tie the count via free throws, 103-all, with 30 ticks to go.
The Road Warriors had the chance to seize the lead but Star secured the ball possession that led to Jalalon’s game winner.
The former Arellano University stalwart finished with 16 points, 4 assists and 4 steals, while giving Star its 3rd straight win.
Mitchell had 23 points for the Hotshots, who were led by Allein Maliksi’s 24 markers.
Star’s win ruined Wayne Chism’s 33-point performance for NLEX.
It was a heartbreaking loss for the Road Warriors who remain winless in 4 games.
