MANILA — Rita Gabiola on Friday recalled her life as a beggar in Lucena City.
The 12-year-old “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate was surprised to see the same percussion instrument that she used to entertain people on the street in exchange for coins.
According to Gabiola, her mother used the money to buy food for the entire family.
“Kapag malapit na ‘yong Pasko, minsan po sa isang jeep, may P25, may P10. Iniipon ko kuya, tapos kapag nabuo na po siya, ibibigay ko po sa nanay ko para pangkain,” she recalled.
Nostalgic upon seeing her favorite toy, Gabiola took the instrument out of the confession room and taught her peers how to play it. Little by little, the housemates are understanding her plight.
On August 22, Gabiola’s sister, Linda, will be turning two. And all she is wishing for is food for her family.
“Gusto ko pong maparamdam sa kanila na kahit sobrang hirap po, kahit konti gusto ko lang silang mabigyan ng mga ganitong bagay,” she said.
