Pinay nabbed in Macau for throwing newborn in trash

MANILA – A 23-year-old Filipina was arrested after authorities found her to be the mother of a baby dumped in a trash bin in Macau.

Macau News reported that the Pinay is employed as a domestic worker in the Philippines. She accompanied her employer’s family to Macau on February 4 and stayed at a residential unit in Taipa.

Authorities said the Pinay and her employer lived on the same floor where the baby was found.

She initially denied giving birth but DNA test confirmed that she was the baby’s mother.

She later admitted to giving birth to a baby girl inside the unit’s bathroom at 1 a.m. But the baby did not cry, she thought that it had died. Before throwing her away, she first wrapped the baby in a towel.

Her employer was not aware that she was pregnant, the report said.

The Pinay is facing charges of child abandonment, with a penalty of prison time of up to five years if found guilty.

Meanwhile, her baby is recovering in a hospital and will be turned over to the custody of the Social Welfare Bureau.
