MANILA — Prolific scorer Gary David, who was unceremoniously placed by Meralco on the reserve list, has agreed to terms with San Miguel Beer, according to a report.
David’s agent Danny Espiritu told FOX Sports Asia that San Miguel secured David’s services amid reports that Mahindra was also interested in acquiring the former Meralco Bolt.
“Matagal ko ng sinabihan ang SMC group noon pang kakalagay ng Meralco kay Gary sa unrestricted free agent list. Ang sabi nila, tingnan nila kung may spot pa for him. Then tumawag sila ulit this week at nagkasundo naman na kami,” Espiritu was quoted as saying.
The report said San Miguel will assume the player’s previous maximum contract with Meralco.
David, who saw his playing minutes dwindle under Meralco coach Norman Black, has a maximum contract of P400,000 a month and runs until August 31.
Espiritu told FOX Sports Asia that David is hoping to give the Beermen quality minutes as he chases that elusive PBA championship after two failed attempts with Air21 and Powerade in the past.
Meralco placed David to its reserve list and was deemed as an unrestricted agent a day after he was suspended last month. His suspension stemmed for his alleged refusal to play with four minutes to go in their game against NLEX.
