San Miguel Beer has decided to fly in Arizona Reid to boost its PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign following the sudden departure of import Tyler Wilkerson.
San Miguel Beer team management earlier announced it had severed ties with Wilkerson following the latter’s outburst after their defeat to Rain or Shine in Game 2.
They immediately sought out Reid, who was part of the San Miguel team that won the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup.
“He’s the best available player right now,” coach Leo Austria said in the PBA website.
Team manager Gee Abanilla earlier admitted to FOX Sports Asia that Wilkerson was instrumental in San Miguel’s push to the semifinals.
He, however, said Wilkerson had problems controlling his temper.
“Whenever he’s upset, he tends to do or say things. But he’s a nice person, it’s just that his temper gets the better out of him,” he said. “So ganun ang nangyayari sa kanya.”
Reid’s return will further enhance the Beermen, who won their first semifinal game against the Elasto Painters on Thursday.
San Miguel won Game 3, 104-98, after dropping the first semis matches. The Beermen are still behind in the best-of-five series, 1-2.
