KZ Tandingan returned to the “Singer 2018” stage in its episode Friday, no longer as a regular contender, but a guest performer bidding farewell after her elimination.
As she did in the sixth episode of the top-rating show, Tandingan once again sung in Mandarin. This time, she performed a translated version of “See You Again,” from the action movie “Furious 7.”
Fittingly, her choice of song — about looking forward to meeting a friend after a long time apart — comes with the confirmation of a chance to still get one of seven slots in “Singer 2018’s” finale.
Tandingan, dubbed local showbiz’s “Soul Supreme,” has earned a following in China over her 5-episode stay in “Singer 2018,” said to be a top-rating show in the country with some 200 million tuning in to its second episode.
This was apparent early this month, when Tandingan was stopped several times by Chinese fans for photos, while she was shopping at a Changsha mall.
Her elimination last week, March 16, even became a trending topic in China’s social media sites, as seen in a screenshot provided by Tandingan’s management, Cornerstone Entertainment.
Tandingan has said that while she’s not yet aware of the winner’s prize in “Singer 2018,” she already considers reaching out to the mostly self-contained audience of China, the world’s most populated country, a priceless accomplishment.
