MANILA — Kris Aquino would rather not have her son, Bimby, play basketball despite the boy’s stature and his father being a PBA star.
The actress and social media star explained her preference in light of a follower commenting on Bimby’s height increase, apparent in Aquino’s recent Instagram posts showing the 11-year-old beside her.
“Would you let him do basketball?” the follower asked Aquino.
Aquino, 47, answered the fan in a comment, writing: “I’ve said this — ayoko ng team sports because kung masiko or makipagsuntukan ang bunso ko, everyone close to me knows susugurin ko ‘yung mom nung nanakit, and baka mawala lahat ng endorsements namin.”
Aquino, whose marriage with Bimby’s father, James Yap, was annulled in 2012, has several brand endorsements that feature her with their son. They’re also joined often by Aquino’s older child, Josh.
Imagining her reaction to Bimby getting into a scuffle, she said, in jest: “For sure kung ano’ng nagawa ko sa bagwa sa ‘Feng Shui’, iyon din ang magagawa ko if my baby gets hurt!”
She was referring to a scene in the 2004 horror blockbuster where her character smashed the bagwa mirror on the pavement.
Aquino then surmised that Bimby would excel in other sports that are not team-based, such as swimming (it requires “staying in your own lane”), golf (but Bimby has asthma and allergic rhinitis), or tennis (but Bimby is not interested).
In the meantime, Bimby has been a staple presence in Aquino’s vlog series where he is sometimes credited as co-host.
